Everywhere’s a workspace with a compact keyboard

  01/11/2018

We don’t all sit down to work at a wide, expansive desk.

There are those working on servers, in kiosks and in cramped industrial spaces; and there are homeworkers balancing a keyboard on the edge of a rickety kitchen table.

ActiveKey’s range of compact keyboards is an ideal solution for when space is an issue. The company’s "Mini Desk" series was developed for use in industrial and retail applications, but is equally at home in an unconventional and impromptu workspace.

Compact keyboards have a smaller footprint than a typical standard keyboard, which measures around 45cm wide. The ActiveKey AK-410 is just less than 30cm wide. They’re also sometimes referred to as mini-keyboards.
For workers struggling in small spaces - for example with a pull-out keyboard tray as their only space - even short times at a desk can be incredibly uncomfortable. If the keyboard tray won’t fit both the mouse and a full size keyboard, the mouse has to be placed somewhere else, and simple tasks become disjointed and awkward.
A smaller keyboard also means that less effort - quite simply less muscle movement - is needed to type. There’s less straining to reach higher keys, and the wrist and the hand can rest on the same surface, relieving pressure on the wrist.
For those who spend a lot of time at a keyboard, there’s less chance of muscle strain or repetitive stress injury.
Full-size keyboards are a one-size-fits-all solution - but we don’t all have huge hands! Using a smaller keyboard can improve posture, and it’s much easier to pop in a briefcase and move around as the workplace becomes more portable.
And it’s the perfect solution for anyone who has lost or limited function in one hand or arm, as it allows one-handed typing without the strain of a full-sized keyboard.

ActiveKey are a leading brand in the manufacture and development of a range of compact keyboards. Based in Pegnitz, Bavaria, the company blends cutting-edge technology with a traditional focus on customer service. Their selection of keyboards is far beyond the traditional, with a wide variety of backlit, wireless and specialist keyboards.

The keyboard family AK-410-NP is a high quality, reliable series of keyboards. Durable, with the full range of standard keyboard functionalities, the AK-410 has 86 keys, Microsoft® Windows™ buttons, and an ergonomic design that it is comfortable for the user.

It’s non-slip, and splash-resistant - and for workplaces where extra protection is required, ActiveKey sell a a keyboard protection film which safeguards against challenging environments without any loss of sensitivity or ease of use.

The unit is compatible with all operating systems and devices that support a standard PS / 2 keyboard, and has a 5 V +/- 5% (via PS / 2 interface) power supply. It connects with a mini-Din connector, and weighs only 0.5kg.
